Pete and Dud: Come Again
A new comedy by Chris Bartlett and Nick Awde.
Following its acclaimed West End season in spring 2006, this production
headlined the Best Of British festival in New Zealand in June 2006, and toured the UK from April to July 2007.
We are happy to entertain licensing requests but are not producing further tours directly.
Think you know the story of Peter Cook and Dudley Moore? Think again.
Britain's
greatest comedy partnership is revisited from Dudley's point of view,
revealing why their humour endured when their relationship could not,
and how Moore leapt from underrated second fiddle to Hollywood superstar
overnight.
Featuring favourite characters from their brilliant early work
with Beyond the Fringe partners Alan Bennett and Jonathan Miller, through
to the hilarious
pint-drinking pundits Pete and Dud, to the outrageously funny Derek
and Clive. This new play celebrates a unique partnership that changed the
face of British comedy forever. Prepare to laugh all over again.
Praise for the West End production:
"Sparky duo ensure this revue is no dud… it's a big hit" Evening Standard
"Essentially, it's an irresistibly funny show with some cracking
one-liners." London Theatre
"I laughed a lot... irresistibly funny" Daily Telegraph
"But it’s
the way the actors bounce off each other with the apparent
spontaneity of the real thing that dazzles. Moore and Cook’s comic
freewheeling is superbly caught in a deconstruction of Aretha Franklin’s
song Respect. Those who know the original sketch on which
this is based
will laugh as
much as those hearing it for the first time." Mail on
Sunday
"Does considerably more than merely impersonate
the comedy greats, and the supporting cast do enjoyably
malicious turns as Bennett and Miller as well as playing a host of other roles.
It
all adds up to an affectionate and yet perceptive evening, with some great
put-downs." The Guardian
"Hiring young comic actors to recreate the classic routines of Britain's
most famous comedians of yesteryear has become a mini-genre
in the past five years... this is the best of the ones I have seen, principally
because the original material is so strong. There's surely nothing
funnier
in the West End at the moment." The Spectator
"Chris Bartlett and Nick Awde's new play aims to examine the hazardous
partnership of two more dead stars but succeeds mainly in reminding
us what an inspired
coupling the real thing was.Their story didn't end happily
for either - but
you'll
be helpless
with laughter as it unfolds." The Sun
Praise for the
original Edinburgh festival production:
‘Immensely entertaining’ Metro
‘Very funny, touching and disturbing’ Daily Mail
‘An entirely enjoyable and rather poignant gallop through the pair's troubled
relationship’ The Guardian
